Kane County’s Nov. 3 pumpkin recycling event in Geneva was a huge success — serving 140 cars, 626 total squashes, equaling about 11,000 pounds o’ pumpkin.

But the even better news is that, if you missed that wonderful day, you can still drop off pumpkins and squashes at Pushing The Envelope Farm, 1700 Averill Road, Geneva.

“Thank you to all who came out, and to all of the great volunteers!” said Jennifer Jarland, Kane County recycling coordinator and organizer of the event. “We collected a ton of pumpkins that will be composted right there on the farm!”

If you’ve got more pumpkins to unload, just bring them to the right side of the driveway at the envelope factory, and place them near the garden shed.

Volunteer Jeannine Kannegiesser, development officer at Northern Illinois Food Bank, one of the event’s co-sponsors, said she “absolutely loved” the experience of getting outdoors, helping residents unload their pumpkins and giving back to the community.

“Enjoyed everyone’s enthusiasm and admiration for the beautiful squashes and pumpkins — both the ones that were born beautiful and the ones that got carved into something wonderful,” she said. “Look forward to doing it again next year!”

• Where: Pushing the Envelope Farm at 1700 Averill Road in Geneva, in front of the tool shed.
• What: We will be accepting pumpkins and squashes for composting right on a farm! It is very important to keep it contaminant-free; just like food scrap composting. This means, no candles, yarn hair, stickers, googly eyes, plastic ears or plastic of any kind. In other words, only the squashes, pumpkins, and gourds themselves can be composted!
