18-Year-Old Charged With Stabbing Victim Multiple Times in Unincorporated Elgin
An 18-year-old Elgin man is facing charges of aggravated violence and aggravated battery related to a multiple stabbing in a house in unincorporated Elgin.

According to a Kane County Sheriff’s news release, deputies responded at about 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, to a report of a home invasion in the 41W400 block of Lenz Road in unincorporated Elgin.
Upon their arrival, deputies found that the victim, a 46-year-old man, had been stabbed multiple times with a folding knife.
Authorities said Byron M. Shavers-Williams, 18, also of the 41W400 block of Lenz Road, had been involved in an earlier altercation with the victim.
The 46-year-old man was transported to Presence St Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where he was listed in critical condition with potentially life-threatening injuries. Shavers-Williams was taken into custody at the residence following the attack.
After an investigation by sheriff’s detectives, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against Shavers-Williams:
- Armed Violence (armed with a Category II weapon while committing the felony of aggravated battery great bodily harm) — a Class X felony
- Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon — a Class 3 felony
- Aggravated battery great bodily harm — a Class 3 felony

“The quick response, safe arrest, and thorough investigation by our deputies and detectives is just another fine example of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office professionalism and dedication to serving and protecting our community,” Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain said in the news release.
The charges against Shavers-Williams are not proof of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
