2 Men, Teenager Charged in Aurora Armed Robbery

Some solid police work by several of the Aurora Police Department’s third shift patrol officers led to armed robbery charges against two men and a teenager, along with the recovery of the proceeds from the incident and the gun used in the early Friday morning, Dec. 7, robbery on the Near East Side.
Charged through the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office with Class-X Armed Robbery are Marco Magana, 20, of the 700 block of Spruce St.; Brandon Alcaraz-Rua, 19, of the 100 block of N. State St.; and a 17-year-old Auroran. The Class-X felonies mean that if the trio are convicted, they will do enhanced prison time.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m. Friday, Aurora police responded to Union and Flagg streets for a report of an armed robbery, according to the APD report.
The victim in the robbery, an 18-year-old Aurora man, said he was pistol whipped and robbed by the three men whom he knew, while they were smoking cannabis inside of a car parked in an alley in the 100 block of North Union.
Based on information received on the scene, some of the officers knew the address of Alcaraz-Rua because of past dealings they had with him.
Once they went to his home, they found the car used in the robbery parked in the front of the home and Magana and the juvenile inside of it.
They then located Alcaraz-Rua inside of his residence. All three were taken into custody without incident.
Located inside the vehicle was the gun used in the robbery and the victim’s cell phone.
The charges are not proof of guilt. The three are considered innocent and are entitled to fair trials at which it is the burden of the State to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
