200 Years: Say Happy Birthday Dec. 13 To Mary Todd Lincoln in Batavia!

One of Batavia’s most famous residents is Mary Todd Lincoln, who was committed to Bellevue Place from May to September of 1875, just 10 years after Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, is celebrating a milestone this year. Born on Dec. 13, 1818, this year marks her 200th birthday.

Join the Depot Museum in wishing Mary Todd Lincoln a Happy Birthday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the day of her birth, Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Batavia Civic Center, located at 327 W. Wilson St.

The Batavia Depot Museum will present Donna Daniels as Mrs. Lincoln for the evening. Daniels has been bringing Mrs. Lincoln to life for audiences nation-wide since 1988. Born and raised in Batavia, Daniels said she is excited to bring Mary Lincoln to her hometown.

The evening will begin with making hats in the style that the Lincolns wore, hear a bit of reminiscing from our guest of honor, and enjoy a piece of birthday cake. This is an all-ages event and the fee is just $7. Please register through the Batavia Park District at 630-879-5235 or visit bataviaparks.org.

If you are interested in learning more about Mary Todd Lincoln or visiting the Depot Museum’s permanent exhibit on her life in Batavia, please call 630-406-5274 to make an appointment or check out bataviahistoricalsociety.org for more information.
