ECC’s Fall Commencement To Be Held Dec. 15
Elgin Community College will hold two commencement ceremonies for the fall 2018 graduating class on Saturday, Dec. 15. Both ceremonies will be held in the Building J Events Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Students are assigned to the graduation ceremony based on the credential being earned.
A ceremony for university transfer degrees (associate in arts, associate in science, associate in fine arts-visual art emphasis, associate in fine arts-music performance emphasis, associate in engineering science and associate in liberal studies) will be held at 10 a.m.
A ceremony for career and technical programs (associate of applied science degrees, vocational specialist certificates and basic vocational specialist certificates) will be held at 2 p.m.
Assistant Professor of Mathematics Greg Wheaton, MS, and the 2017 Orrin G. Thompson Teaching Excellence Award winner, will speak at both ceremonies.
This year’s student speakers are Raul Vasquez of Lake in the Hills for the university transfer degree ceremony and De’reen M. Yyleta of Elgin for the career and technical programs ceremony.
The commencement address for both ceremonies will be given by ECC President David Sam, PhD, JD, LLM. Chair of the Board of Trustees, Jeffrey Meyer, JD, will also give remarks during the ceremonies.
Guests do not need tickets for admission to the ceremonies and there will be open seating. The doors will open one hour prior to the start of each ceremony.
