The Kane County Coroner’s Office, with the help of Mr. and Mrs. Claus, is partnering with the Christmas Cheer Foundation to deliver 650 meals to guests at area shelters on Christmas Day. Children 12 and under will also receive a gift-wrapped new book for Christmas.

Coroner’s Office personnel will pick up the meals and children’s gifts Christmas morning, then stop by three agencies throughout Kane County to deliver the meals and children’s books.

Christmas Cheer Foundation is an all-volunteer 501c3 charity that has delivered prepared meals and new children’s books to Chicagoland hungry for more than 35 years. More than 20,000 meals will be delivered this year to people in Chicago and more than 45 suburbs.

According to a Coroner’s Office news release, 2018 will be the first year for recipients in Kane County. Financial donations to support Christmas Cheer Foundation may be made by clicking this link.

“Christmas is a time for giving,” Russell said. “My deputies and I deal with difficult circumstances throughout the year, situations that are not cheerful. This program gives us the opportunity to renew our spirits and help a few more people along the way.”

Working with the Coroner to bring Christmas Cheer to Kane County are Harvey’s Tales, Books & Other Diversions, 216 James St. in Geneva, with a collection box for new children’s books, and Barnes & Noble, Geneva Commons will supply a portion of their donated book sales to Christmas Cheer.
