UPDATE: Elburn Referendum, Elgin Mayoral, School Board Contests on April 2 Ballots

With the filing period complete in many parts of Kane County, the ballots for the April 2, 2019, election are starting to take shape.

As of noon today (Tuesday, Dec. 18), one referendum question for the April 2 election has been posted on the Kane County Clerk’s Office election website.
The village of Elburn will ask voters to approve a municipal retailers and service occupation tax. According to the ballot wording, passage of the referendum would allow Elburn to impose what is commonly referred to as a “municipal sales tax” at the rate of not more than 1 percent for expenditures on municipal operations, public infrastructure and for property tax relief.
Also as of noon, there are no candidates listed for multiple open seats in units of government throughout Kane County. Be sure to check the Clerk’s Office Elections website for the latest updates.
The Clerk’s Office website shows a contest for mayor in the city of Elgin, where incumbent David Kaptain will face off against Elgin Councilwoman Carol Rauschenberger.
Seven candidates will vie for four open seats on the Elgin City Council, and three candidates will be on the ballot for an open two-year term.
There are contested races in many School Board elections, including Elgin District U-46, Batavia District 101, Aurora West District 129, School District 300, Geneva School District 304 and St. Charles School District 303.
The April 2 Consolidated Election is a hyper-local set of contests. It includes municipal races, such as mayor or village president, alderman or ward representative, plus school board, library board, park district board and other local units of government.
The early voting period is Friday, March 8, through Monday, April 1, at the Kane County Elections Main Office in Building B at the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva, and the Aurora Satellite Office, 5 E. Downer Place, Suite F, Aurora.
Early voting will be available at a variety of additional locations beginning Monday, March 18.
