4 Aurora Officers Will Receive Medals of Valor Jan. 16
Four police officers will be receiving Medals of Valor — the highest recognition bestowed by the Aurora Police Department — during a public ceremony at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16.
Two of the officers, Ryszard (“Rick”) Drozdowski and Bradley Vonhoff, will be honored for their actions on May 4, 2018, when a 95-year-old woman drove her vehicle into a Far East Side retention pond; while the other two officers, Special Operations Investigators Colin Griffin and Matthew Huber will be recognized for their response when they came under fire by a known gang member on March 22, 2018.
The medals recognize officers who demonstrate outstanding acts of bravery and heroism performed in the line of duty which puts their own lives at extreme personal risk.
The department will also roll out its brand new Police Uniform Patch which has not been changed in about 50 years. It replaces one that had a generic design that had been adopted by police agencies and security organizations around the nation.
The ceremony will also recognize the Department’s newest members and the most recent retirees.
The ceremony will be staged in the Community Room of Aurora Police Headquarters, 1200 E. Indian Trail.
