48-Hour Snow Totals: Elgin Leads Kane’s Second Snow Dump (And More’s Coming)
Algonquin got the most snow during the big weekend dump — with 9 inches — but Elgin got the most in round two, the 48-hour period prior to 6 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 24, 2019).
Three stations in Elgin each recorded 3.8 inches of snow in the past 48 hours. Algonquin got another 3.5 inches. Elburn was next with 3.2 inches.
Rockford, Harvard, Genoa and Dixon tied for most in the region, with 6.0 inches.
We could get another half inch Friday. There’s a chance of snow Saturday and Sunday — and a a good chance a lot more snow is coming Sunday night.

So, how much snow did we get here in Kane County over the past weekend?
Plenty is the short answer — more than 6 inches for most places north of I-88 and a whopping 9.0 in Algonquin.
To be clear, the Algonquin totals were actually on the McHenry County side of the border, but since a good portion of Algonquin is in Kane, were’ putting them on the top of the snow-total list.
This highest official Kane County total was 7.5 inches in Lily Lake, according to stats provided by the National Weather Service Chicago.
The widespread snow event occurred on Friday night, Jan 18, through midday on Saturday, Jan 19.
