Aurora Woman Charged With Dragging 5-Year-Old By Hair in Hospital ER
The Aurora Police Department has secured numerous charges through the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office against a 25-year-old Aurora woman who was videotaped on Monday dragging a 5-year-old boy by the hair inside an Aurora hospital’s emergency room waiting area.
Due to privacy issues involving children, police said they cannot disclose the relationship between the woman and the little boy.
“Any comments on that relationship are speculative and have not been mentioned by the Aurora police,” APD spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.
Tanye M. McNeal of the 1200 block of Second Avenue is charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery and three misdemeanor counts of domestic battery in connection with the incident that occurred around 4:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Rush Copley Medical Center in the 2000 block of Ogden Avenue.
The alleged abuse was videotaped by a 28-year-old Wisconsin woman who also called 911 to summon us to the facility.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and medical professionals all worked with the Police Department on the ensuing investigation, which is continuing.
McNeal was taken into custody at Aurora Police Headquarters Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 16. Prior to dragging the boy by his hair, charging documents indicate that McNeal held the 5-year-old down in a chair while pinching his neck, which caused bruising.
The victim and another 2-year-old boy, both of whom are relatives of McNeal, were placed with a relative the evening of the incident.
The charges are not proof of guilt. McNeal is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the burden of the state to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
