County Committee OK’s Parking For Jan. 19 Women’s March in Geneva
The Kane County Board Administration Committee today (Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019) gave preliminary OK to allow parking for a women’s march set for Jan. 19 in Geneva.
Fox Valley Illinois’ Women’s March is an event sponsored by two grassroots organizations: We Can Lead Change – Fox Valley and Kane County Coalition.
According to the organizations’ Facebook page, the event is set for 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Kane County Courthouse, 100 S. Third St., Geneva.
The general schedule is:
- 10 a.m. — Gather for rally at Kane County Courthouse Parking Lot, West Side, 100 S. Third St., Geneva.
- 10:30 a.m. — March steps off on to Third Street, near James Street.
- 11 a.m. — March ends on Third Street, near South Street.
U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood and state Rep. Karina Villa are expected to speak at the rally, in the parking lot in back of the courthouse.
“(The march) is led by women, but is for everyone,” the Facebook post says. “When women rise, we bring our communities with us, and our march is bringing together people from all backgrounds, faiths, genders, ethnicities, disabilities, sexualities, ages, and immigration statuses to affirm our shared humanity and pronounce our bold message of self-determination and unity.”
Participants are also asked to register for the event on Facebook.
