This is one of those stories that isn’t much more than a Facebook post, but it makes you smile and reminds you both of the quirky little moments of life and the general kindnesses of folks in uniform that often go unnoticed.

The event took place before the dangerous cold we’re experiencing today, so it wasn’t one of those life-or-death situations.

Basically what happened is a man went to claim a dog off the rescue railroad drop spot in North Aurora. The details aren’t clear, but apparently the new owner put the dog in the car, and before he could get back into it, the dog had hit a button and locked him out.

Aurora police were called, came to the scene and were able to open the car door — thus uniting canine and owner.

Just a happy little ending to brighten your very cold day.
