Geneva Will Close Third Street During Jan. 19 Women’s March

The city of Geneva will close Third Street and restrict parking on certain streets Saturday, when as many as 5,000 people are expected for a women’s rally at the Geneva courthouse.

Police NewsThe Women’s March Fox Valley is set to take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, in downtown Geneva.

According to a city of Geneva news release, signs will be posted Friday, Jan. 18, in the 300 block of James Street and along Third Street from James to South streets that will prohibit parking from 2 a.m. to noon Jan. 19.

The event, sponsored by the Kane County Coalition of We Can Lead Change, will begin with a rally in the parking lot behind the Kane County Courthouse at 10 a.m. followed by a march south down Third Street at 10:30 a.m.

Geneva police will close Third Street to vehicular traffic shortly before the march begins.

Parade organizers have estimated attendance will be between 3,000 to 5,000 people. Participants planning to attend the event are encouraged to park in the Third Street commuter parking deck or public parking lots around the Geneva Train Station.

Parking information is available on the city’s website. Parking is free on the weekends.

All downtown streets will be reopened to traffic by noon Jan. 19.

Motorists looking to avoid the downtown road closure are encouraged to use Route 31 as an alternate route.
