Aurora Casino Evacuated After Employee Overhears Threat

Hollywood Casino in downtown Aurora was evacuated and the Kane County bomb squad was called Tuesday after a threat heard by an employee.

According to the city of Aurora Police Department, an adult male entered the casino sometime around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2019) and had an interaction with an employee in which he made statements that the employee perceived were threatening in nature.
The employee alerted casino security personnel, who then called 911, police said.
As a precaution, the casino, the valet parking deck across the street and adjoining businesses to the casino were evacuated. The Kane County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad searched the vehicle the man had used to get to the casino, police said.
Westbound New York Street was closed at Broadway, and traffic was “very congested downtown,” police said.
The casino was reopened around 8 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
The man is in custody at the Aurora Police Department. Charges are pending, according to the state police and media reports.
