Coroner ID’s Carpentersville Man Killed in Route 31 Crash

The Kane County Coroner’s Office has identified the 24-year-old man killed Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash on IL Route 31.

The driver, identified as Ray Altamirano, was pronounced deceased on the scene at 12:44 p.m. Tuesday, after his car hit  a tree on Route 31 near Gentle Breeze Terrace in Carpentersville.

According to a report from the Carpentersville Police Department, police and fire personnel responded to a single-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon on Route 31 between Lincoln Avenue and Miller Road.

Upon arriving on the scene officers located a vehicle off the roadway, on its side and up against a tree. Prior to the accident, a witness reported the vehicle was traveling south on Route 31 at a high rate of speed.

Fire Department personnel lifted the vehicle to extricate Altamirano from underneath the vehicle. Altaminarano was the vehicle’s sole occupant, police said.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office was notified and transported Altamirano from the accident scene.

The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team assisted the Carpentersville Police Department in the investigation of this accident.

Members of the Kane County Office of Emergency Management assisted with traffic direction at the accident scene.

Route 31 was closed to traffic between 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. while the accident was being investigated.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019. The preliminary findings were multiple injuries.

Toxicology samples were collected at the time of the autopsy and sent to a forensic lab for analysis.
