Huntley schools were briefly on lockdown Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2019) after a bizarre series of events that included a stolen vehicle, a fleeing suspect, a handgun and a search warrant as suspects held position inside a suburban home.

According to a Huntley Police Department news release, police were advised at 8:45 a.m. that the driver of a stolen vehicle had fled a Lake in the Hills traffic stop and was seen driving west on Reed Road approaching IL Route 47.

At about 9 a.m., the same vehicle was reported to have struck a light pole at Chetwood Drive and Boudreaux Drive. Witnesses saw a male suspect exit the vehicle and flee the scene, police said. A handgun was later found in the area of the crash location.

Another person apparently drove the vehicle to a home in the area of Buckingham Drive. A witness followed the vehicle and saw it entering a residential garage not far from the Reed Road campus.

Police informed the School District, and school officials placed the Reed Road Campus and Learning Tree on lockdown as a precaution.

The Reed Road campus of Huntley Community School District 158 includes the Early Childhood Center, Chesak Elementary School, Martin Elementary School and Marlowe Middle School.

Police attempted to make contact with the occupants of the home, but the occupants refused to exit, reports said. So Huntley police sought and executed a search warrant, recovered the stolen vehicle and took two subjects into custody.

After searching the impacted areas, police advised school officials of the arrests, and the lockdown was lifted at about 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.
