WalletHub says Illinois is the second-best state in the union in which to drive a motor vehicle.
Somewhat surprisingly, we score pretty well in categories like Road Quality and Traffic Fatality Rate and Share of Rush-Hour Traffic Congestion. We also rock in the category of Auto-Repair Shops per Capita.
With U.S. traffic congestion costing the average driver more than $1,400 per year and the U.S. ranked 10th in the world in road quality, the personal-finance website WalletHub released its report on 2019’s Best & Worst States to Drive in as well as accompanying videos.
To determine the most driver-friendly states in the U.S., WalletHub compared the 50 states across 30 key metrics. The data set ranges from average gas prices to share of rush-hour traffic congestion to road quality.
Driving in Illinois (1=Best; 25=Avg.):
- 15th – Share of Rush-Hour Traffic Congestion
- 10th – Traffic Fatality Rate
- 16th – Car Theft Rate
- 4th – Auto-Repair Shops per Capita
