2019 is the best time to go solar in Kane County!

The combination of state incentives, federal tax credits, decreasing solar system costs, and a “Solarize” program mean that you can save at least 15 percent on a solar system compared to waiting until 2020.

The Citizens Utility Board is working with the Midwest Renewable Energy Association to host a “Solarize” solar group-buy program for residents of Kane County. The goal of this program is to promote awareness of the economic and environmental benefits of going solar.

Solarize is a model that has had success throughout the country. It will bring smaller residential solar projects together and contract with a single installer through a competitive bid process.

By taking part in this program, every household that goes solar will save 10 percent to 15 percent on a solar system compared to going solar individually.

CUB will be running this program in Kane County throughout 2019, and it will be a great opportunity to learn more about state and federal incentives that encourage homeowners to embrace the sun.

Solar installations will begin in May and all installations will be completed by the end of the year, to ensure that everyone receives the highest tax credit possible.

Christina Uzzo, environmental outreach coordinator at CUB, will be presenting on this opportunity at the Fox Valley Sustainability Network’s Solar Energy Forum on Feb. 8. The event will take place at the Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way from 10 a.m. to 12:15 pm.
