Standing With Aurora: NIU Holds Vigil Honoring Victims of Mass Shooting

Northern Illinois University will be honoring the lives of Trevor Wehner and Clay Parks, two of the five victims of the Friday mass shooting in Aurora.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the vigil begins at 5:51 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, in the Holmes Student Center, Regency Room, 600 Lucinda Ave., DeKalb.

NIU had just completed a memorial honoring the anniversary of a 2008 campus shooting in which five students were killed.

The NIU community is again reeling from the deaths of two more Huskies.

In a message to students on Saturday, Northern Illinois University President Lisa Freeman shared the news that NIU student Trevor Wehner and alumnus Clay Parks were killed Friday in the workplace shooting at Henry Pratt Co. in Aurora.

Wehner was from Sheridan, IL, and expected to graduate in May with a degree in Human Resource Management. Friday was his first day as an intern at Henry Pratt.

Parks was a 2014 graduate of the College of Business and worked as a human resources manager.

“Loss like this is devastating and senseless,” Freeman said.. “I ask our university community to please keep the Wehner and Parks families, friends and communities in your hearts and offer them caring thoughts. It’s important that we also support one another during this time of grief and sadness.”
