Blackberry Township 18-Year-Old Charged With DUI, Possession of Controlled Substance

An 18-year-old from Blackberry Township has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence, improper lane use, illegal transportation of alcohol and driving without insurance after a February crash in Geneva.

According to Geneva police reports and court documents, Payton J. Glod, 18, crashed his 2014 Toyota Prius into a parkway tree in the 400 block of East Side Drive at around 3 a.m. Feb. 2.

Paramedics took Glod to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva.

Police later located a clear plastic bag in the Toyota which contained three pills later identified as Xanax.

The charge against Glod is a Class 4 felony, punishable by one to three years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000 on each count if convicted.

Glod was released on a $10,000 bond and is to appear in court again April 26.

The charges against Glod are not proof of guilt. Glod is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
