FP District Temporarily Closes Equestrian Trails Due To Mucky Spring Weather

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County is temporarily closing equestrian trails due to the wet spring weather.

“Due to thawing temperatures, rain we received last weekend, plus the forecasted precipitation for Wednesday, we will be closing all equestrian trails until further notice,” officials said on Facebook.

Ice and standing water have already been observed on the trail systems, and with overnight lows well above freezing, the trails will become heavily saturated in the coming days.

“We are closing trails now to protect and minimize possible damage caused by horse traffic during the spring thaw,” officials said.

Updates will be posted as conditions warrant, officials said.
