March 21 Public Hearing Set For Kane County Stormwater Ordinance Revisions

Kane County has released proposed revisions to its stormwater management ordinance, and the public is invited to review and comment prior to March 31. A public hearing is set for March 21.

The revisions aim to incorporate ordinance language from the Technical Manual, address conflicting language within the ordinance, make the ordinance more user friendly, add requirements for water quality/best management practices, standardize detention triggers, promote redevelopment and provide watershed benefit options that encourage farmland preservation.

“We encourage you to review these ordinance revisions and provide your comments,” said Jodie Wollnik, director of the Kane County Division of Environment & Water Resources.

Will a revised stormwater management ordinance affect your property?

You can find out by viewing or downloading it from the Kane County Stormwater Ordinance website: www.kanecountystormwaterupdate.org.

More than 300 copies of the ordinance revisions also have been distributed for public review to Kane County Board members, municipal and village offices, township offices, consulting engineering firms, and interested organizations for review and comment.

The Kane County Stormwater Management Planning Committee released the revisions to the Kane County Stormwater Ordinance for a 30-day public review and comment period.

The county requests all comments be received by March 31, 2019, for consideration. Public comment will be reviewed and incorporated into the ordinance as deemed appropriate.

Written public comments may be submitted directly on the website or may be mailed to: Kane County Division of Environment & Water Resources, 719 Batavia Ave., Geneva, IL, 60134. Attn: Jodie Wollnik, Director.

Citizens also may comment during a public hearing, set for 7 p.m. Thursday, March, 21, in the County Board Room of Building A at the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva.

Following the public hearing, the Stormwater Management Planning Committee expects to make a recommendation to the County Board during a meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019.

If approved by the County Board at its May meeting, the ordinance will become effective June 1, 2019, and will be the countywide minimum standard. Developments seeking exemption from the revisions should contact their permitting authority prior to the effective date to determine if they are eligible for an exemption.
