A 35-year-old St. Charles man faces criminal charges for allegedly punching a 70-year-old man in the face during an argument, causing the victim to fall and break his hip.

Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon has charged Brandon F. Bruhn with the offenses of Aggravated battery, a Class 2 felony, three counts of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony, and two counts of battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

Kane County prosecutors and the St. Charles police allege that at about noon on March 1, 2019, Bruhn and the victim, who is older than 60, exchanged angry words while in the parking lot of a business in the 600 block of Geneva Road, St. Charles.

Bruhn then punched the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground, causing the victim to fracture his hip and causing a laceration to the victim’s face.

A Kane County judge set Bruhn’s bail at $25,000 with 10 percent ($2,500) to apply for bond, and set Bruhn’s next court appearance for 9 a.m. March 8, 2019, in front of Kane County Circuit Judge John A. Barsanti in Courtroom 319 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

Bruhn posted the $2,500 bond and was released from the Kane County jail. As a condition of bond he is to have no contact with the victim and the victim’s spouse.

The charges against Bruhn are not proof of guilt. Bruhn is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
