Teens from 4-H programs throughout Kane County will shadow public officials during Tuesday’s (March 12, 2019) Kane County Board meeting.

For 25 years, 4-H Government Day has been an opportunity for countywide 4-H teens to spend time with public officials and government staff members for a half day.

“The program has been a great way for our local 4-H members to learn more about county government and how it operates,” 4-H officials said in a news release.

Shadowing takes place during the regularly scheduled County Board meeting, where youth get the opportunity to listen and sometimes provide input on specific agenda items. Sometimes, youth shadow officials or staff members at their office and learn the inner workings of county government.

On Tuesday, youth meet their assigned official at 8:30 a.m. in the Auditorium (lower level) of Building A at the Government Center in Geneva. The program concludes with an appreciation luncheon at the University of Illinois Extension offices, 535 South Randall Road, St. Charles.
