UPDATE: Flags, Services, Procession To Honor Deputy Sheriff Killed in Line of Duty
A public visitation for Deputy Sheriff Jacob Keltner of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the officer who died in the line of duty Thursday, will be held will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Tuesday, March 12), at DeFiore Funeral Home located at 10763 Dundee Road in Huntley, Illinois. A formal law enforcement walk through will be at 6 p.m.
The funeral will occur at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, at Woodstock North High School located at 3000 Raffel Road in Woodstock, IL.

After his funeral Wednesday, there will be procession of police and emergency vehicles, from Woodstock North High School to DeFiore Funeral Home, where Keltner’s body will be cremated.
From the high school, the procession will go north on Raffel Road; then west on Charles Road; south on Route 47; southeast on Route 14; south on Route 31; west on James R. Rakow Road, which turns into Randall Road; west on Algonquin Road; south on Ruth Road; south on Dundee Road; ending at DeFiore Funeral Home.

Keltner was working with a U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force Thursday, serving an arrest warrant on Floyd E. Brown, 39, at the Extended Stay America in Rockford, when Brown jumped through a third-story window, shot Keltner in the parking lot, then sped away in his car.
Brown led authorities on a high-speed chase that resulted in the lockdown of several District 300 schools, a high-speed 160-mile journey down Interstate 55 and ultimately Brown’s capture near the city of Lincoln in downstate Illinois.
Floyd Brown was in cour Monday (March 11, 2019) in Rockford. He faces federal murder charges, as well the possibility of the death penalty. He also faces state charges, according to ABC7 news and other media sources.
Flags at Half Staff
U.S. and state flags in Kane County and throughout Illinois are lowered today in memory of Keltner.
The Department of Central Management Services has received notice from Gov. JB Pritzker that all person or entities covered by the Illinois Flag Display Act are to fly the flags at half-staff in his honor.
The United States flags and the state flags should be lowered immediately at all buildings until sunset Wednesday, March 13.

Jacob Howard Keltner, 35, of Crystal Lake, died March 7, 2019 in Rockford, IL.
Jacob was born the son of Howard and Helen Keltner. He graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in Spanish and a minor in law enforcement and justice administration. On Aug. 10, 2007 he married Rebecca Lee Cranston.
From a very young age, Jake knew he wanted to be a police officer. He started in a civilian position with DuPage County Sheriff’s Department and soon joined McHenry County Sheriff’s Department, where he was working patrol, then moved into investigations as a detective, and for seven years in narcotics, while assigned to the United States drug enforcement administration — Rockford Office Group # 39 and for the last five years assigned to United States Marshal Great Lakes Regional Fugitive task force.
He loved his job and was very good at what he did. He enjoyed working out, especially biking. He enjoyed swimming with his boys during the summer. He was a die-hard Cubs fan.
Jake was an all-around great guy who was an awesome provider for his wife and his beloved boys. He was a prankster who had a contagious laugh and literally could talk to anyone he met.
Jake was a devoted son, husband, father, brother and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Becki, and their young boys Caleb and Carson, by his parents, Helen and Howie Keltner, his brothers, Zachary (Latasha) Keltner and Lucas (Christine) Keltner, and by his grandmother Theresa Sekowski. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Don Cranston, sister-in-laws Amy (Fiance Ryan Hoven) Cranston, and Holly (Tirso) Castro Rodriquez and by, nieces, nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Pam Cranston and sister, Sara, by his grandparents, Robert and Patricia (nee Costello) Keltner, and by his grandfather, Eugene J. (Sy) Sekowski, and his aunt Patricia Hernbroth (nee Keltner).
A public visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at DeFiore Funeral Home located at 10763 Dundee Road in Huntley, Illinois. A formal law enforcement walk through will be at 6 p.m.
