PHOTO UPDATE — April 27 Snow Totals: St. Charles Leads Region With 6.0 Inches

Kane County once again led the league in cold-weather misery, scoring the highest snowfall in Saturday’s late-April blizzard.

St. Charles recorded 6.0 inches of wet snow, according to statistics released Sunday (April 28, 2019) by the National Weather Service Chicago. Observations usually are taken at 7 a.m.

The Kane County 24-hour snow totals varied greatly, as they often do. Here’s the top five:

  • St. Charles — 6.0 inches
  • Gilberts — 4.9 inches
  • Elgin — 4.5 inches
  • Elburn — 3.0 inches
  • Batavia — 1.6 inches

  • The official snowfall for Chicago as of 1 a.m. was 2.5 inches observed at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. This was the latest accumulating snow since 1989 (May 6).
  • The official snowfall for Rockford was 3.7 inches, observed at Chicago Rockford International Airport. Facts about this can be found below.

Snowfall

  • Other snowfall amounts include 0.4 inches at the NWS Chicago in Romeoville and 1.5 inches observed three miles southwest of Chicago Midway International Airport.
  • While this was the latest accumulating snow in Chicago and Rockford in 25 years, parts of the area have had later accumulating snow since, including May 16, 2014.
