An Aurora man has been charged in the fatal hit-and-run crash that took the life of an 8-year-old boy and injured the child’s grandfather.

According to an Aurora Police Department news release, Christopher Carrillo, 28, of Aurora has charged with multiple offenses related to the March 25 accident:

• Failure to report an accident involving death — a Class 1 felony.
• Failure to report an accident involving injury — a Class 2 felony.
• Leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury or death — a Class 4 felony.
• No Valid Driver’s License — a Class A misdemeanor.
• Operating Uninsured Motor Vehicle — Business Offense.

Aurora Police investigators concluded that on Monday evening, March 25, 2019, Carrillo was driving southbound Lake Street near Plum Street in his gray 2007 Ford Fusion when he struck an 8-year-old child and the child’s grandfather, who were crossing the street.

It is alleged that Carrillo then fled the scene and abandoned his car in a nearby neighborhood.

Over the weekend, Aurora police Investigators made contact with Carrillo at his home in Aurora, where he was arrested and charged. Carrillo was transported to the Kane County Jail to be arraigned on bond. He will be assigned a court date upon release.

At the time of this release, it is unknown if Carrillo was under the influence of any intoxicating compounds, but none of the charging documents indicate impairment at this time.

The March 25 crash was followed by a second crash, in which an Aurora police officer’s squad car was struck as he was seated inside and assisting with the fatal crash. In that crash, John Lundy, 48, of Aurora, was charged with

• Driving While License Revoked — Class 4 Felony
• Operating Uninsured Motor Vehicle — Misdemeanor
• Fail to Yield / Emergency Vehicle — Misdemeanor
• Leaving the Scene/Accident — Misdemeanor
• Aggravated DUI — Class 1 Felony
• Aggravated DUI — Class 4 Felony
• DUI — Misdemeanor

Charges are not proof of guilt. The defendant listed herein is presumed innocent and is entitled to fair trials at which it is the burden of the state to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
