Announcer: Welcome to Tails of the Day! We just got word that Onyx, a 7-month-old Labrador Retriever completed his neutering a few days ago as well as other testing and is now available for adoption at Kane County Animal Control. Our reporter, Erica Tailswaggin, is on the scene. Erica, what have you learned?

Erica Tailswaggin: (looking a little disheveled) What a big day for Onyx, Brad! And what a wonderful puppy he is!

Onyx

Brad (Announcer): That’s good to know, Erica! What have you learned about Onyx that we can share with our viewers?

Erica: What we’ve learned is this young pup was an owner surrender due to his first family unable to care for him in a small apartment, so it just wasn’t a good match.

Brad (Announcer): Well, tell us Erica, as you’re on the scene, there seems to be a myth circulating that neutering or spaying your dog will somehow take away the dog’s … uh, personality. Are there any signs of that with Onyx so far?

Erica: Are you kidding me, Brad? I’ve never seen a more energetic dog than Onyx. I took him for a walk a while ago and I thought I had the leash tied to a train. That’s why I’m looking a little … unkempt. (slight giggle)

Brad: I wondered why you had that wind-blown look, Erica. (slight chuckle) Well, if we’re going to get this happy guy a home, what do people need to know about him?

Erica: He is indeed a very happy guy! He’s super friendly and seems to just love everyone once he gets to know them. He’s still a bit shy around strangers, but give him a treat, and he’s your best bud for life.

Brad: I had a cousin like that. Oh, sorry, now, as a puppy this size at this age, will it be beneficial for his new owners to train him a little? Or do puppies come already trained?

Erica: Well…(pause) I didn’t see that question coming, Brad. No, puppies don’t come trained out of the Amazon box! You gotta put a little effort into it. Right now he’s a blank slate, so getting him trained and focused will benefit him for the rest of his life.

Brad: Good to know, Erica. That’s why we have you on the scene! Thanks for your report.

Erica: OK, Brad, I’ll send it back to you!

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.

The adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and adoption of two cats is $150. The adoption fee for cockatiels is $25.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
