A home security system and quick action by Kane County sheriff’s deputies resulted in charges for an alleged daytime home burglary Thursday in unincorporated Kaneville Township.

According to a Kane County Sheriff’s Office news release, patrol deputies responded at about 12:15 p.m. Thursday, April 11, to a report of a residential burglary on Perry Road in unincorporated Kaneville Township.

The homeowner was alerted by his home security system that someone had entered his home. Security footage was able to identify the suspect in the home as Nicholas Bower, 32, of Hinckley.

Deputies were able to locate Bower at a residence in the city of DeKalb, where he was taken into custody.

Deputies discovered a safe and other items taken from the home.

The Kane County State Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against Bower:

• Residential Burglary, a Class 1 felony
• Theft, a Class A misdemeanor

The charges against Bower are not proof of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
