Winter Storm Saturday: Kane Could See 1 Inch Per Hour
UPDATE
We’d like to say it ain’t snow.
But that’s not what the National Weather Service is telling us.
In fact, we’ve got a Winter Storm Watch in effect from Saturday (April 27, 2019) morning through Saturday evening, with the potential for a heavy, wet snowfall of 4 to 8 inches.
Snowfall rates of 1 inch per hour will allow for some accumulation on paved surfaces and may result in slushy roadways.
There will likely be a sharp southern cutoff in snowfall between I-88 and the Wisconsin state line, so a small shift in the low pressure track could result in significant changes in the snowfall forecast.
The storm system will quickly move across the region on Saturday and Saturday night. Portions of far northern Illinois, especially closer to the Wisconsin state line, will be hardest hit.
In addition, if heavy snow does occur, strong northerly winds could further reduce visibility and cause minor tree damage and power outages. Finally, the strong winds and large waves will elevate already high lake levels, which could result in lakeshore flooding.
