The Kane County Coroner’s Office said an Elgin driver died of a heart-related event prior to a Sunday (May 26, 2019) crash on McLean Boulevard in Elgin.

According to the Elgin Police Department, officers responded at around 10:45 a.m. Sunday to a report of a crash on McLean near Weatherstone Lane, where a 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe collided with a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse.

Both drivers were transported to an area hospital by the Elgin Fire Department.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office identified the driver of the Chevrolet Traverse as 63-year-old Laddie Nudera of Elgin, who was pronounced deceased a short time after being transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital.

The Coroner’s Office said Nudera was transported from the hospital to the Kane County Morgue, where an autopsy was conducted on Tuesday, May 28, 2019.

“The preliminary findings, pending toxicology results, indicated that a heart-related event occurred before the crash, thus causing the driver to lose control (and possibly consciousness) and crash the vehicle,” Kane County Coroner Rob Russell said in the news release.

Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab at the time of the autopsy.

A second driver suffered minor injuries, reports said.

McLean Boulevard was shut down for about three hours while officers investigated.

The Elgin Police Department Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call 847-289-2616.

This was one of at least two traffic-related fatalities in Kane County over the Memorial Day weekend. A Hinckley man was killed in a single-car crash on Main Street in Blackberry Township early Memorial Day.
