FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force ID’s Person Charged With Making Elgin School Threat
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has authorized charges against a 23-year-old Elgin man accused of threatening a school.
According to an Elgin Police Department Facebook post, Elgin police were contacted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Terrorism Task Force last week about a possible school shooting threat that was disseminated over social media.

“The threat was generalized and not specific to a particular school in the Elgin area,” the Facebook post said.
Through follow-up investigation, the person who sent the message was identified as Miguel Soto, 23, of the 400 block of Miller St., Elgin.
Soto was located and taken into custody without incident, police said.
The facts of the case were reviewed by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, which authorized one count of Threat to School, Building/Person, a Class 4 felony.
Soto appeared in Kane County court for bond call, where his bail was set at $30,000, with 10 percent to apply for bond.
Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley said cooperation between the federal and local branches of law enforcement is key to making schools more safe.
“We appreciate our federal partners as together we quickly resolved this situation to ensure the safety of our community,” she said via Facebook.
Soto’s arrest is not evidence of guilt. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
