Kane County Dodges Tornado in Thursday’s Storms

Powerful storms and a possible tornado rocked the Western suburbs today (Thursday, May 16, 2019), but most of the damage appears to be outside Kane County.

According to the National Weather Service Chicago, local media and social media reports, the storms set off tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings, and brought heavy rain and hail.

A tornado warning earlier was issued for DeKalb, Kendall, and LaSalle counties early in the afternoon. A Twitter post claimed a funnel cloud near Sandwich High School.

Periodic thundershowers are expected tonight, Friday and through the weekend, according to the NWS-C.

There is a Marginal Risk for severe storms Friday and Saturday with the primary threats being strong, damaging winds and large hail. A cold front pushing south through the region tonight will suppress the warmer air to the southern portions of the area, with cool, east flow off of Lake Michigan bringing back lower temperatures.

There will be another chance for thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday.
