If you have a child who loves playing in the mud, International Mud Day will be their dream come true Sunday, May 19, at Primrose Farm.

From 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., children and adults of all ages will have half an acre to get muddy — to squish, stomp, splash, dig, pile and play until every inch is covered from head to toe.

But don’t be fooled. This event is not just for children. Bring out your inner child and join in the fun. Show your loved ones how to create a mud pie; plop mounds of mud on each other’s heads; make muddy tire tracks with trucks; and more. The mud is there for you, no matter what you decide to do.

A sprinkler will keep the mud wet and squishy throughout the afternoon.

While there are no structured activities, there will be designated areas of play. For example, there will be a zone for truck and car play as well as one for making mud pies.

“Every kid needs to know how to make a mud pie,” said Laura McCoy, Hickory Knolls Nature Programs Supervisor. “There’s no wrong recipe. It’s such a great thing to pass on to the next generation.”

McCoy encourages all ages to come out and enjoy the day with their children or grandchildren. “Make it a full body experience, be ready to go and just play in the mud. It’s the perfect way to enjoy and connect with nature.”

Participants should bring a spare change of clothes to change in the car. There isn’t a changing area, but there will be a spot to hose off. Shoes also are required and should be a style that stay on your feet.

Children also can bring their own toys for play.

The fee is $5 for residents and $8 for nonresidents. Register online at www.stcparks.org or pay at the door.
