It’s official.

The month of May in 2019 isn’t even over yet and it’s got the record as the wettest May on record since 1871, with 8.25 inches at O’Hare.

According to the latest tweet from the National Weather Service Chicago, Rockford is now at the second wettest May on record since 1906, with 8.93 inches.

We’re also looking at the second wettest spring on record since1871 with 16.36 inches. The record for the wettest spring is 17.51 inches in 1983.

For Rockford, it’s the third wettest spring on record since1906 with 15.28 inches. The record for wettest spring in Rockford is 21.43 inches in 1973.

Chicago is now at the wettest May on record since 1871 with 8.25″. It is also currently the 2nd wettest spring on record since1871 with 16.36″. Record for wettest spring is 17.51″ in 1983.

More Rain Coming

The NWS Chicago says we should expect more rain this afternoon (Thursday, May 30, 2019).

“Scattered thunderstorms will re-develop this afternoon and continue into this evening,” the NWS says.

A few of the stronger storms could produce a bit of hail and gusty winds.

Tornadoes West of Here

The NWS Chicago hasn’t issued any official warnings about tornadoes in its report of this afternoon’s pending storms, but the NWS’s “Storm Reports of the Last 24 Hours” shows a lot of tornado activity far west of here, in Iowa.
