Silver Glen Road Bridge Replacement Starts May 27
Bridge replacement work is scheduled to begin on the week of May 27, 2019 on Silver Glen Road Bridge over Otter Creek, located about 0.75 miles west of Randall Road.
According to a Kane County Division of Transportation news release, bridge repair work is expected to last about months.
Work will consist of the demolition of the existing bridge and pedestrian bridge and replacement with a three span reinforced concrete slab bridge and steel truss pedestrian bridge, reconstruction of approach roadway, resurfacing, earthwork, restoration, guardrail, temporary traffic signal and all other work necessary to complete the project.
In order to safely replace this bridge structure, a detour restricting any traffic over a maximum width of 10 feet is required during the first phase of the project, which should last about 14 weeks. The posted detour route will be Corron Road, Bowes Road, and Randall Road.
All bicyclists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the use of the area during construction for the safety of both the workers and the residents.
During the working hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, the contractor will be using both roadway shoulders along the bridge to temporarily store vehicles and equipment.
Silver Glen Road will also be temporarily reduced to one lane of travel, in each direction, during the duration of the project, using temporary traffic signals. The pedestrian walkway may also be intermittently closed during this time.

Warning To Drivers
KDOT warns drivers to be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, and be extra alert. Watch for construction workers, construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.
Expect delays while traveling through the work areas. You may want to add additional time to your commute and consider the use of alternate routes while this work is being completed.
KDOT reminds drivers that is illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375.
