Trivea S. Jones, 23, of the 2000 block of Fox Pointe Drive has been charged with felony battery of her 6-month-old son.

According to a Friday news release from the Aurora Police Department, officers and fire personnel were dispatched just before 5 p.m. Friday (June 21, 2019) to a home in the 2000 block of Fox Pointe Drive to assist with a call an infant who was unconscious and not breathing.

Upon arrival, officers located the infant lying on the family room floor inside the residence and immediately began CPR in an attempt to resuscitate the child. Aurora Fire Department Medics arrived on scene and immediately transported the child to a nearby hospital.

Jones, who was alone in the home, told police and fire personnel that her son suddenly stopped breathing while she was feeding him, but hospital staff noted that the infant was suffering from severe trauma, including a fractured skull.

The child was airlifted to a Chicago trauma center where he remains on life support as of the Friday news release.

Jones later admitted to battering the child against a piece of furniture and leaving him unconscious on the floor for some time before asking a neighbor to call 911. Jones was taken into custody by Aurora police investigators. She has been charged with the following:

• Aggravated Battery to a Child under 13 years old, a Class X felony.
• Aggravated Domestic Battery, a Class 2 felony.

At the time or the news release, Jones remained in custody at the Kane County Jail and was awaiting arraignment. She will be provided a future court date.

No other persons were present in the home during the incident, and there are no other child victims within the home.

The charges against Jones are not proof of guilt. Jones is presumed innocent and entitled to fair trials at which it is the burden of the state to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
