An Aurora man has been arrested and charged with multiple felony counts, including attempted murder, after striking a woman with a minivan early Tuesday morning on the city’s near east side.

According to an Aurora Police Department news release, police and Fire Department medics were dispatched at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday (June 25, 2019) to a disturbance in the 100 block of North Fourth Street.

When officers arrived, they found a 42-year-old Aurora woman lying in the front yard of a home and learned she had been struck by a minivan driven by Jordi Nieto, 20, of the 1700 block of Richard Avenue.

APD detectives learned that Nieto and the victim’s daughter, an 18-year-old Aurora woman, were involved in a relationship and ongoing domestic disputes, which included reports to Aurora police for domestic violence.

The 18-year-old told police she returned home from work during the early morning hours of June 25 and found that Nieto had followed her home.

The 18-year-old’s mother confronted Nieto in the front yard of the residence and an argument ensued, at which time Nieto reportedly struck the mother with the minivan.

Medics transported the victim from the scene to an area hospital. She was treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Nieto, who had been detained by family members of the victim, was taken into custody by responding officers and transported to the Aurora Police Department.

The Kane County States Attorney’s Office authorized several felony charges, including Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery, and Aggravated Domestic Battery.

Bond was set at $1 million.

The charges against Nieto are not proof of guilt. Nieto is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
