Aurora Teacher Charged For Alleged Sexual Abuse
An Aurora school teacher is accused of sexually abusing two children he knew.
Kane County State‘s Attorney Joe McMahon has charged 58-year-old Luis R. Mora, a f
with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.Kane County prosecutors allege that between August 2018 and May 2019 Mora made sexual contact with two victims, both of whom are 8 years old. Mora knows the victims.
Mora appeared Tuesday, June 4, in Kane County bond court. Kane County Associate Judge Keith Johnson set Mora’s bail at $75,000 with 10 percent ($7,500) to apply for bond.
Johnson set Mora’s next court appearance for 9 a.m. June 19, 2019, in Courtroom 313 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
If Mora posts bond, he is prohibited from having contact with the victims, and he is prohibited from having unsupervised contact with anyone younger than 14. In addition, he must surrender his passport to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.
The Kane County Child Advocacy Center investigated the case with assistance from the Aurora Police Department. The case remains under investigation.

The charges against Mora are not proof of guilt. Mora is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Statement From School District 131
On April 24, it was brought to our attention that an alleged inappropriate behavior took place between a District 131 staff member and a student.
District 131 officials immediately contacted the Department of Children and Family Services and placed the staff member on administrative leave, as is our customary practice. DCFS confirmed to district officials that local law enforcement would take the lead on the investigation.
On June 4, District 131 was informed by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office that their investigation has led to the arrest of Luis Mora, a District 131 employee who had been working as a first-grade bilingual teacher at Dieterich Elementary School.
Our top priority is the safety and emotional well-being of our students. Each of our employees receives periodic training regarding maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with students. District 131 has worked very hard to establish a culture of trust within our school communities. Anything that threatens to erode student safety or our culture of trust is something we take very seriously.
