Got confidential documents you need to recycle? How about electronics and books?

A Kane County Recycles event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 8, at the Kane County Branch Court, 540 S. Randall in St. Charles. The county will be accepting electronics and books for recycling and documents for shredding.

Here’s a closer look at what you can recycle Saturday:

Electronics

Electronics include computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, televisions (any size, type or age), stereos, cell phones, microwaves, Christmas lights and more. A complete list of accepted items, and more information can be found at this page of the Kane County Recycles website.

“We unload for you!” Recycling Coordinator Jennifer Jarland said.

Note that there’s a fee to recycle TVs and monitors. See below.

Books And Paper You’ve Shredded at Home

Books of any age and condition for reuse or recycling.

Also, you can bring shredded paper — documents you have already shredded at home — to the book recycling area for recycling.

Confidential Document Shredding

Paper documents of a confidential nature may be shredded for free onsite.

The limit is about four boxes, because this free service is for residents only. No documents from businesses will be recycled. More guidelines can be found at Confidential Document Recycling page of the Kane County Recycles website.

Costs

• TVs and computer monitors have a recycling fee, which is paid directly to the non-profit recycler. The fee is $25 for screens under 21 inches, measured diagonally across the screen, or $35 for screens 21 inches or more wide, measured diagonally The fee is payable by the resident with cash or card.
• All else is free to drop off.

Next Event

The next event after this one will be the Annual Recycling Extravaganza on July 13, 2019.

That’s the year’s biggest, and historically the most-attended, so be sure to mark your calendar.

Not Accepted

Kane County Does not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances like washers and refrigerators.

Weekday Electronics Drop-offs

Kane County also has two Electronics Recycling Drop-off locations that are open Monday through Friday every week.
