It’s not in Kane County, but it’s close enough to take note.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Monday (June 10, 2019) that improvements to the bridge deck and approaches carrying Gary’s Mill Road over the west branch of the DuPage River just east of Illinois 59 in West Chicago will require the road to be closed starting June 17.

A detour will direct traffic to Illinois 59 and Roosevelt Road. Access to Currie Elementary School and residences between the bridge and Purnell Road will be maintained.

The work is expected to be complete by mid-July.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
