Kane County Connects Intern Allison Arguezo Returns For Summer 2019
St. Charles resident Allison Arguezo is back for a second year as a Kane County Connects summer intern.
Arguezo is a recent graduate of St. Charles East High School and will be joining the class of 2023 at Northwestern University to pursue journalism at The Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications.
She graduated in the top 10% of her class and was named as a 2019-20 State Scholar from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission and the state of Illinois.
During her senior year of high school, Arguezo was appointed as one of the entertainment co-section editors for her school’s newspaper, the X-Ray, and competed in the IHSA Journalism Sectionals at Northern Illinois University, where she took fourth place in the category of review writing.
Arguezo’s other leadership roles include being on the teen staff for the Greater Fox River Valley Operation Snowball.
Last year, Arguezo worked on Kane County Connects’ first-ever Summer Events Guide and continued the Spotlight on Kane County Communities series begun by her predecessors, Annabel Sengstock and Elizabeth Kramer.
This summer, Arguezo hopes to hone her writing and reporting skills in preparation for Northwestern University in the fall.
“I am trying to learn as much as I can about journalism,” she said. “And thanks to my internship with Kane County Connects, I have the opportunities and resources to do so.”
Kane County Connects internships are voluntary, unpaid positions, designed for work experience and/or academic credit, and do not impact Kane County taxpayers. If you are interested in an internship opportunity, contact Kane County Connects Editor Rick Nagel at kanecountyconnects@gmail.com.
In additional to the story series, the KC Connects interns will:
- Brainstorm story ideas that will help grow KCC’s audience.
- Learn to aggregate content and edit news releases.
- Write and post articles on the KCC blog.
- Take photos/videos and include them in their posts.
- On occasion, build or help build the KCC e-newsletter on Constant Contact.
