A Bartlett man has been sent to prison for stealing more than $75,000 from his employer, a Geneva attorney.

Kane County Circuit Judge Clint Hull on June 20, 2019, sentenced 39-year-old Franco Morrone to 4½ years’ imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

On March 21, 2019, Morrone pleaded guilty to the offenses of identity theft, a Class 1 felony, and theft, a Class 2 felony

Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Kelli Schmidt and Sarah Seberger stated at the sentencing hearing that between February 2016 and March 2017 Morrone opened a credit card in the name of his employer, used the card to make more than $75,000 worth of purchases for personal use and transferred money from his employer’s bank account to pay the credit card balance.

In addition to the prison term, Hull ordered Morrone to pay $75,742.64 in restitution within 5 years of his release from prison.

According to Illinois law, Morrone is eligible for day-for-day sentencing and will receive credit for time already served.

Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said the crime “illustrates Mr. Morrone’s greed.”

“He was hired into a position of trust and was well paid, but immediately abused that trust for his own personal gain,” he said. “It is important to hold people accountable for the damage that these thefts cause to people’s lives. My thanks to Geneva Police Det. Bob Pech and ASAs Schmidt and Seberger for their diligent work on this case.”
