Live From Swedish Days! KCC Intern Allison Arguezo Samples The Fun
Editor’s Note: Kane County Connects intern Allison Arguezo is out and about at Geneva’s Swedish Days this week, sampling the food, folks and fun. Here are a few photos from today (Wednesday, June 19, 2019) as well as what to look forward to tonight and tomorrow.
Swedish Days, the big event in downtown Geneva, is in full swing today (Wednesday, June 19, 2019).

Carnival
First stop was the carnival, always a blast for crowds young and old.
Operated by Windy City Amusements, the carnival is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the Geneva Courthouse parking lot at James and South Fourth streets.
Fun fact: From noon to 4 p.m., you can get unlimited rides for $25 per person. Individual prices per ride range from $2 to $6.
Food
You can’t do Swedish Days without sampling the food.
I was curious to try something from “The Latest Craze” Cupcake and English Toffee Shop. I wasn’t sure what to try but as I was walking by the booth that they had outside I saw that they had large array of cupcake icing flavors for only one $1.
The Frosting Shooters are so cute, I just had to try one! I choose the strawberry, and it wasn’t too sweet nor too bitter — just right! The flavor is perfect to go onto any cupcake and I can’t wait to try more of their large collection of flavors!
I am enjoying a cup of one of Graham’s salty cookie ice cream. The ice cream is a creamy blend of sweet and salt that’s surprisingly good.
I’ll be sure to come back again to try one of their Swedish Days specialties, like the lingonberry frosts, or the kokosnöt.
The Geneva Rotary Club is offering all sorts of traditional festival foods such as hot dogs, chips, and corn on the cob. They also serve bratwurts and beef wieners as well.
The a portion of the proceeds from fundraiser booth go toward Geneva High School, Mutual Ground, scholarships for students, and plenty of more agencies.
Booths
Don’t forget to stop by the booths. A lot of free stuff and good causes.
The Geneva Fire Department sets up a booth that offers pamphlets, firemen hats, slap bracelets and much more to those that pass by the booth. Nicholas Morici (left) and Gavin Hayes (right) both Work for the Geneva Fire Department.
Tonight (Wednesday, June 19)
4 p.m. — Swedish American Children’s Choir
The Swedish American Children’s Choir welcomes you with a traditional Swedish Välkommen. Celebrating over 19 years as the largest choir of its kind in the Midwest, the choir has gained a reputation for performance excellence. Singers ranging in age from 4-18 travel throughout the Chicagoland area and have quickly sparked interest in the Swedish heritage and become repeat performers for numerous organizations, festivals and conventions.
5 p.m. — Geneva Park District
Enjoy live performances by the Geneva Park District’s Angels Cheer & Poms Team, the Geneva Gymnastics Academy, Playhouse 38 youth performers, and the Geneva Park District’s Sunset Dance Academy.
6:30 p.m. — Geneva’s Got Talent Semi-Finals
Cheer on your favorite Geneva’s Got Talent performers as they compete in the GGT Semi-Finals for the chance to move on to the Finals and ultimately win a cash prize! Geneva’s Got Talent is a cooperative talent competition presented by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce and the Geneva Park District.
Tomorrow (Thursday, June 20)
1 p.m. — Courthouse Lawn: Kelsey and Owen
Crossing paths as instructors at the School of Rock Geneva, Kelsey and Owen have been playing music together for a short time, but their passion for performing music has been constant through their lifetimes. Recognizing their similarities in musical style and interest, they joined forces and built a set full of classics that they hope you enjoy!
5 p.m. — Central Stage: Geneva’s Got Talent Finals
Cheer on your favorite performer as they compete to be named the 2019 winner of Geneva’s Got Talent! Geneva’s Got Talent is a cooperative talent competition presented by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce and the Geneva Park District.
7 p.m. — Central Stage: Planet Groove
Planet Groove is a seven-piece band that features a three-piece horn section, and all seven of the members sing! PG has played more than 1,500 shows and 100 festival appearances, while backing up over 20 national artists. Planet Groove plays high energy music from the ’60s-today, and chain many songs together to keep the dance floor hoppin’.
