Man Killed When Motorcycle Crashes Into Truck on Illinois Avenue in Aurora
A Westmont man was killed Saturday when his motorcycle crashed into a pickup truck in Aurora.
According to an Aurora Police Department news release, John Schwickert, 54, of West 64th Street, Westmont, died Saturday evening (June 1, 2019) after his 2017 Harley Davidson Road Glide rear-ended a pickup truck on Illinois Avenue.
Aurora police responded at 7:25 p.m. Saturday to the area of Illinois Avenue and View Street on Aurora’s West Side for a report of a serious crash.
Witnesses who spoke with the police on scene indicated that Schwickert was riding his motorcycle at a high rate of speed east on Illinois Avenue and ran the stop sign at Illinois Avenue and View Street, striking a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck from behind.
Schwickert was rushed to an area hospital but later died of his injuries. A person in the pickup truck was treated and released from the scene with minor injuries.
Police do not immediately suspect intoxication as a contributing factor in the crash.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office may review toxicology samples as part of the investigation.
This is at least the second fatal motorcycle crash in Kane County in 12 days. A Lake in The Hills man was killed Monday, May 20, in a crash on Randall Road in St. Charles.
