An Elgin man faces criminal charges for allegedly robbing at gunpoint someone he lured to the scene using a dating app.

According to a Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office news release, 20-year-old Dashaun Harvest of Elgin has been charged with armed robbery with a firearm, a Class X felony, and aggravated robbery armed with a firearm, a Class 1 felony.

The Kane County prosecutors allege that sometime after 1 a.m. Jan. 12, 2019, Harvest pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded money. The victim gave Harvest $50 in cash.

According to Elgin police, the victim allegedly arranged to meet with someone he had been communicating with on a dating app. When the victim showed up, Harvest pointed the gun at him and demanded cash.

The victim gave Harvest the $50, Harvest fled and the victim called police.

After a months-long investigation, police identified Harvest as the alleged offender.

Harvest appeared Monday, June 24, 2019, in Kane County bond court. Associate Judge Keith Johnson set Harvest’s bail at $200,000 with 10 percent ($20,000) to apply for bond.

Harvest’s next court appearance is set for 9 a.m. July 3, 2019, in Courtroom 305 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

The charges against Harvest are not proof of guilt. Harvest is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
