St. Charles Man Charged With Friday Home Invasion, Sexual Assault
A St. Charles man has been charged with entering a home early Friday morning (June 14, 2019) and sexually assaulting a woman who had been sleeping on her couch.
According to a St. Charles Police Department news release officers were dispatched at 1:58 a.m. Friday to a report of a criminal sexual assault that had just occurred in the 300 block of Illinois Street.
Upon arrival, officers encountered Jason A. Carter, 42, of St. Charles, outside of the victim’s residence.
During the investigation, officers learned that Carter had entered a residence uninvited and sexually assaulted the victim, who was sleeping on a couch. Police said the victim identified Carter on the scene, and he was taken in to custody.
After conferring with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, Carter was charged with one count of Home Invasion, a Class X felony, and one count of Criminal Sexual Assault, a Class 1 felony.
Police said they “believe this to be an isolated incident involving an acquaintance of the victim. However, residents are reminded to lock doors at night or when they are away.”
The charges against Carter are not proof of guilt. Carter is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
This is the second home invasion reported in two days. St. Charles police previous alerted area residents of a residential burglary Thursday (June 13, 2019), when a homeowner reportedly confronted then grappled with two intruders wearing ski masks.
