According to media reports and the Fox Valley Park District, the 16-year-old was watching the game when lightning struck the ground, then shocked the teen in the leg.

Sugar Grove Fire Department responded, and the teen was taken to Rush-Copley. He is expected to be OK, reports said.

Reports said teams were starting second half of the game when officials evacuated the area because of lightning.

The soccer game was part of a 140-team Alianza Chicago tournament hosted at the Fox Valley Park District facility.

The Fox Valley Park District said evacuation procedures were properly followed.

“The health and safety of our participants is always a top priority, and FVPD staff follow established guidelines in the event of severe weather,” the FVPD said via Facebook.
