Another River Rescue in St. Charles — This Time at The Dam
The St. Charles Fire Department made its second river rescue in a week, this time pulling three people from a disabled boat just north of the Fox River dam.
According to a St. Charles Fire Department news release, a rescue team was dispatched at 1:23 p.m. Sunday (June 30, 2019) and were on the scene by 1:24 p.m., when firefighters found a disabled boat with three people inside about 1,000 yards north of the dam.
The anchor line for the boat was not holding, and the strong winds from the approaching storm were blowing the boat toward the dam.
Firefighters launched a rescue boat from Pottawatomie Park and reached the boat just as it approached the dam.
Two adults and one teenager were rescued. The victim’s boat went over the dam, and at the time of the news release was upside down in the water just north of the bridge.
The three persons in the boat were transported to the dock behind the Police Department, where paramedics attended to them.
“The victims were wet from the storm and distressed from the event, (but) they were wearing their personal flotation devices and had no physical injuries,” St. Charles Fire Chief Joe Schelstreet said in the news release.
None of the victims entered the water, and no transports were made.
The party had been out on the river when a storm impacted the area and they experienced engine trouble. The anchor line was not adequate and their difficulties were witnessed by people on the shore who called 911.
This is the second St. Charles river rescue in less than a week. On Monday (June 24, 2019), Fire Department personnel rescued an adult and two children whose Pottawatomie Park paddle boat was caught in a storm and trapped under a train trestle bridge.
