Skyler Garcia, 18, of Aurora, remains in custody on $2 million bond and is charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, and Possession of a Weapon without a FOID after Aurora Police Investigators learned that he allegedly shot a 17-year-old Aurora juvenile during a dispute on June 27, at a home on Aurora’s East Side.

According to an Aurora Police Department news release, police and Medics were dispatched at around 9:20 p.m. Thursday, June 27, to a home in the 500 block of Gates Street in response to a call of a gunshot victim.

Upon arrival, responders located a juvenile male, of that residence, had sustained a single gunshot wound to his left shoulder. The juvenile was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for this non-life threatening injury.

Aurora police detectives and evidence personnel also responded to the scene and began their investigation, which revealed that just prior to this shooting, the juvenile and some of his friends were “hanging out” in the driveway behind the residence at which time Garcia, who was not part of the group, approached the home and fired multiple gunshots, striking the juvenile as described.

Garcia fled the area but was later apprehended by Aurora police officers at a home in Montgomery, IL.

Garcia remains in custody at the Kane County Jail and will appear at a future court date.

The charges against Garcia are not proof of guilt. He is presumed innocent and entitled to fair trials at which it is the burden of the state to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
